18 months

We are in a phase now, which obviously isn't a great  sleeping phase. Add teething and a fever (Alice) to that and guess how many hours of sleep I get. I decided to keep both girls home from daycare, as the chances of Antonia also getting a fever are quite high, when Alice is ill. But it was only Alice who wanted to be in my lap all day. She got both angry and sad when Antonia tried to cuddle and play with me. That's the never ending story with multiples: you as a parent always feel insufficient and the kids seldom have you to yourself when they need you. Antonia took it well though, she danced to the children's music I had put on and of course played the best game of all: peekaboo! Even Alice laughed then. I hope she feels better tomorrow, when she is at home with her dad. Antonia definitely needs to go to daycare tomorrow to get some stimulation. And I need to go to work tomorrow.
Besides the frustration of not getting any sleep and constant headache, I really like this phase of the girls development. Comparing this phase to the utterly boring 6-9 months phase this is so much fun! They mirror my moves and this morning, Antonia helped me to move the big dining table. I really like the fact that they begin to understand routines and actions. And both girls have so much humour! They are really funny and I enjoy being with them, as they always make me smile. I left some pasta on the dining room table from the girls lunch in a little bowl and after a while, Antonia went to the table, moved the bowl a bit closer to the edge and took two penne (without spilling any of it!!), she popped one into her mouth and gave the other to Bernard, our dog. Partners in crime! She redid this a few times and watching her was really interesting- to see what she has learned and how she uses her knowledge. Both of them love reading and looking at all the pictures in the books. They study the pages in detail and when I ask them later for example where the cat is, they can point it out.
