Smartness

The girls are learning new things every day. Antonia has a kind of practical smartness. She sees a problem and watches us how we get around that problem to reach our goal. And then she uses her new insight and succeeds. For example: we have built barriers between our living room and the hallway where the stairs are. Of corse there is a gate where you can go through, but you can also just push it aside a bit and go through on the side. The girls are very curious and they want to explore every inch of their surroundings, so if course they want to get to the other side, where there are loads of interesting things to discover. Mums handbag, dads skateboards, Bernard's leashes and loads of shoes and THE STAIRS. Antonia figured out how to push the barrier aside this afternoon and Alice was still standing at the gate (she didn't quite get it as fast as Antonia). But when she found out, there was no stopping her or Antonia.  I lifted them back and they made it round again for about 20 minutes. (Great workout!) We have now decided to skip that barrier and get a gate for the stairs at the bottom too. We have one at the top due to night-wandering elder siblings. And we need to secure the kitchen. They (Antonia first) have figured out how to open the drawers and they are of a kind you can't really secure. So we need to come up with something.

Alice has a different kind of smartness. She is good with words - understanding what we mean and pointing out the right animals in the books. She is good at mirroring our movements and gets the hang of things in a more intellectual way. It's hard to describe their different approach. Antonia has a trial and error method and Alice a more thought through way of doing things.
Alice wanted to try my husbands vest this morning and she felt so privileged and beautiful. Walking around like a queen. It was really hilarious!
We went to a Christmas market this afternoon and the girls got to eat their first hot dog. They loved it! And this makes it really easy for us in the future, as there is always a hot dog near you in Sweden.
Speaking of dogs: there were loads at the market and the girls got excited every time they saw one.

Need to catch some sleep now, as it's work mode for me tomorrow. Closing with some pictures from today:
